My Experience Hosting My First Real Estate Workshop
1. Introduction
Brief Overview of the Workshop: The workshop was designed to share key insights for buyers and sellers.
Personal Motivation for Hosting It: Since receiving my license in July 2022, I felt I could best communicate my value and answer questions for interested buyers and sellers without waiting for them to get back to me. Hosting a workshop allowed me to directly engage with people eager to learn from me.
2. Planning and Preparation
Selecting the Topic and Content: Choosing a topic was straightforward; I knew I needed to introduce myself first. For the content, I conducted research and used a service that keeps me updated on real estate market trends, which made selecting topics for the workshop easier.
Choosing the Venue and Date: I didn’t have to worry about the venue or date, as the Black Chamber of Commerce set everything up for me. All I had to do was prepare my presentation, present, and answer audience questions.
Marketing and Promoting the Event: Honestly, the only marketing I did was on my Instagram stories. While people liked the story post, no one attended because of it. Fortunately, a few people invited by the Black Chamber of Commerce showed up. I’d rate my marketing efforts a 1/10 and plan to send emails in advance to build excitement for future events.
3. The Day of the Workshop
Setting Up the Venue: To set up, I stapled my business cards to a piece of paper that included two important websites, QR codes for easy access, and terms I would mention during the workshop.
Running Through the Schedule and Agenda: I started my presentation at 5:45 PM, waiting for attendees to arrive even though the workshop was scheduled to start at 5 PM. I wanted to ensure I had an audience before diving into the material.
4. Highlights of the Workshop
Key Points and Discussions: A notable question was about building a sense of community in areas affected by gangs and drugs. My response emphasized my duty to disclose such information and let buyers make informed decisions. As a real estate agent, I commit to working ethically and honestly, sharing all known information to help clients make the best decisions.
Guest Speakers or Special Activities: I didn’t have any guest speakers or special activities this time but may incorporate them in the future.
Participant Engagement and Interaction: I could tell when the audience was engaged and when I needed to shorten my explanations. I received many questions, indicating interest. I’d rate audience engagement a 6.5/10, showing room for improvement in my presentation skills. Overall, I felt confident and collected with my prepared slides and information.
5. Challenges and Solutions
Unexpected Issues and Handling Them: Thankfully, there were no unexpected issues, and I’m grateful for that.
Lessons Learned: I learned to be brief and to the point, market events at least a week in advance, and send at least two email campaigns inviting people. Preparing two days before the event is crucial to accommodate other real estate activities, as I had to negotiate for almost two hours the day before the workshop, which impacted my preparation time.
6. Feedback and Reception
Participant Feedback and Testimonials: Participants mentioned I did a good job. Next time, I will focus on getting testimonials from attendees about their experience at the event.
Personal Reflections on the Event’s Success: Overall, I think I did well. I need to improve my event marketing and look forward to hosting more workshops.
7. Future Plans
Upcoming Workshops or Events: I currently conduct a weekly Rate Watch, focusing on interest rates through a YouTube Live session, discussing home prices, market trends, and more.
Areas for Improvement Based on This Experience: There are always areas for improvement, especially in marketing.
